You win some, you lose some!

22 Jun

I still haven’t heard back from the company I interviewed with on Friday. But, I did get a new lead on a job via LinkedIn! Now I’m anxiously waiting for a response.

Yesterday, I lost the exercise battle. Instead of going to the gym in the morning, I was at my desk at 6:30. Yes, 6:30AM. I had intentions of going to the gym after work, but that never happened. Instead, I snuggled with this little munchkin:

She’s so cute!

I did end up going for a run this morning, though, and I feel awesome! It was supposed to be a tempo run of 3 miles at 11:08min/mile. I don’t think that’s a tempo run, since I already run at about that pace, so I ran 3 miles at 10 mins/mile. I would like to credit the iced coffee I drank before I hit the treadmill for that… I’m pretty pumped, because I want to do the 10k I have planned for July 4th at just under 10 min/miles. I think I can do it. 🙂

I just have to keep winning these exercise battles! I read an article today on SparkPeople. I found this inspiring, “Whatever the excuse, just do it.” Great motto!

Fitness Magazine Quiz – Whack!

21 Jun

I’m so irked, I had to write about it. I am a devote Sparker ( and I get daily emails from them. Today’s email had a link to a quiz from Fitness magazine titled, “How many calories are you really eating?” I thought this would be appropriate, because I’m very frustrated about eating healthier and running a ton, but having my pants getting tighter and tighter. Where’s my money going?

21 Jun

I have been tracking my spending and I am shocked! I guess I didn’t realize what I was spending my money on… but that was the purpose of this exercise, wasn’t it? It has only been 2 full weeks and I feel like I’ve already overspent (assuming half of the monthly budget… not that I’ve spent a month’s worth in 2 weeks.) I still don’t feel as though I’m excessive with my luxuries, but I do understand how many luxuries I have. Things like doggy daycare…

But how can I sacrifice her comfort for my lack of self-control? Continue reading

Changes and Decisions

I have been too busy with this…

to write about overcoming my addiction to indulgence.

What a great concert! But on to the rest of my life… Continue reading

Although I can’t pronounce it, the Lindt Stracciatella truffle is probably my favorite chocolate treat. I don’t even like white chocolate, even tried with pink peppercorns as a Boston Chocolatier had once recommended. For some reason, though, Continue reading

Fail to plan, plan to fail

6 Jun
I only ran 6 out of the 9 miles I was supposed to do this weekend. I can come up with the reasons why 9 miles didn’t happen, but they’re just excuses. Weekends are really hard for me to stay on track. We had awesome tickets to the Sox game, and we had plans to meet up before the game at Boston Beer Works. As an aside, I truely hate going there before a Red Sox game. There’s always a long line of people who are out-of-towners. I feel as though the locals choose other places to hit up before the games, but since I was going to the game with out-of-towners, I just went with the flow. But the early meet up time, plus having to drop the pup off at daycare first, meant that my run time was cut short. Or, I could have just woken up earlier, or laced up my sneakers faster… (Seriously, I don’t know why it takes me so long to get ready to go for a run.)
It all comes down to poor planning. Guilty as charged! Because of this realization, I know that I need to get my goals finalized and posted so that I can start to work on them. While I was sitting in traffic this morning, trying to figure out how I could avoid traffic in the future, I started to think about my August 2012 goal of being financial free of any “debts,” so to speak. I am prepared to still be in student loan debt, and some credit card debt, by that date, but I would like to be in a situation where I am able to change careers, or at the very least, change employers. So here’s what I came up with:

Indulgence, Synonyms: luxury, extravagance, pleasure, treat

This blog is about self-control and goal setting. I realize that I, like everyone else, have two options. I can make steps towards change and goals, or I can continue to live life as I have been, an indulgent mess of reckless spending and consuming. As much as I talk/think/obsess about losing weight and getting out of debt, year after year, the numbers on the scale and in the bank account are relatively constant. Why? Because I have no self-control and a lack of direction. I have not set any goals or set myself up to succeed at these enormous tasks in any way. I hope that this blog will keep me accountable, to myself first and foremost. I am unsure how any blog gets readers/followers, so I won’t worry about that right now.
